THERAPY

The therapy I offer at Bromley Therapy Clinic is 'integrative therapy' - but what does this actually mean?

In a nutshell, it means the bringing together of many different trainings / approaches / schools of thought.

This is beneficial to you because it means I will never try and make you fit into one prescriptive form of therapy on offer, but rather I am skilled and able to tailor the therapy to you and your specific needs.  Keep reading for more information.

HYPNOTHERAPY

Did you know that hypnosis is a natural and safe state that we all go in to every day?!

You know that feeling when you’re so focused on a boxset or a great book that you don't even question if it's fantasy or reality -  and yet you're still able to gently hear other things going on around you?

That's hypnosis

Or maybe you'll know that 'flow-state' feeling when you're engrossed in your favourite sport/hobby/activity?

That's hypnosis

Or when you drive somewhere on autopilot and don't remember how you got there?

That's .... ok you get the idea.

In hypnotherapy we use this natural state of hypnosis to help you focus inwards - in order to make the positive changes that you wish to achieve.

It is during these altered states of awareness that we can work with your subconscious mind. This can allow you to address beliefs, habits, poast experiences, rules you’ve set yourself, fears, phobias, and much more.

Hypnotherapy is a chance to CHANGE what you’re paying attention to and during sessions you will be guided by my voice and my expertise.  But you are ALWAYS in control.

HYPNO-PSYCHOTHERAPY

How does this differ from just hypnotherapy you may be asking?

The term 'psychotherapy' refers to a collection of talking therapy approaches.  At Bromley Therapy Clinic we are trained in many psychotherapeutic approaches that compliment hypnotherapy brilliantly.

Some of the approaches we may naturally weave into your sessions:

Humanistic – looking at you as a whole human being and how you can reach your own potential

Psychodynamic – helping you understand how past experiences can shape how you are feeling and acting in the present. This can be useful for identifying patterns of behaviour.  We look at getting to the root of the problem and work through your unconscious processes

Behavioural – looking at ways we can change your patterns of thoughts and behaviours and learning how they are related

Solution-Focused - identifying the goals you'd like to achieve and focusing on solutions

Eye Movement Reconsolidation - using bi-lateral stimulation and specific eye movements we can help you to reprocess difficult and traumatic memories and focus on feeling safe in the present moment

Somatic/body approaches - working with tapping and breathing techniques we can work without words to help support parts of your brain that have become heightened and anxious

Combining hypnotherapy and psychotherapy allows you, the client, to explore as deeply as you need to whilst also creating sustainable change on a subconscious level.

MINDFULNESS

Contrary to common misconception, mindfulness isn’t about clearing your mind of all thoughts. Mindfulness is actually about paying attention and being aware in the moment.  Jon Kabat-Zinn refers to mindfulness as inhabiting the present moment and as “the awareness that arises by paying attention on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally.” (Full Catastrophe Living)

Mindfulness is a mental state but it’s about paying attention rather than thinking. We can pay attention to what is arising within us in a given moment.  We can notice how our body feels but instead of being drawn into deep thoughts or judgements about bodily sensations, mindfulness allows us to observe without judgement.  It is also possible in mindfulness to be aware of our thoughts as they arise, but rather than engaging with them mindfulness gives us the opportunity to observe and then come back to the present moment. â€‹â€‹â€‹

SPECIALISMS

Here are some of the areas I have a special interest in as well as advanced training

TRAUMA FROM DOMESTIC ABUSE

I specialise in working with women who have lived through an abusive relationship and are ready to process and heal the trauma.

I have lived experience of domestic abuse and understand that even many years later, the experiences can live on in the body and the mind, leading to anxiety, depression, low self-worth, relationship issues and various physical ailments.

I understand that this can leave you feeling hopeless, but I am here to tell you there IS hope.  I work with many trauma-informed approaches to help you:

  1. Process difficult past events (We can do this without you even having to talk about them if you do not wish to)

  2. Move the memories from feeling ‘present’ to the past

  3. Move your nervous system from fight, flight, freeze, fawn to rest and digest (feeling safe and calm)

  4. Build your self-worth and confidence

  5. Trust yourself again

  6. Set and achieve new goals for the present and future

Please note I am not a crisis service and if you are in crisis / trying to leave a DV situation, or very recently out of a DV situation you may wish to contact an organisation like Women's Aid

BIRTH TRAUMA & BIRTH PHOBIA

One of the areas I am extremely passionate about working in is birth phobia (also known as Tokophobia) and birth trauma and I have undertaken additional, specialist training in this area.  Both are very real issues that require a special level of understanding and sensitivity.

Perhaps you find yourself here because you are preventing yourself from starting a family because the fear of pregnancy or birth is too much?

Or maybe you’ve experience baby loss and you’re frightened to try again.

Or it might be that a previous birth left you feeling traumatised and you need some help moving forward before you can think about having another baby?

Hypno-psychotherapy can really help.
