THERAPY
The therapy I offer at Bromley Therapy Clinic is 'integrative therapy' - but what does this actually mean?

In a nutshell, it means the bringing together of many different trainings / approaches / schools of thought.

This is beneficial to you because it means I will never try and make you fit into one prescriptive form of therapy on offer, but rather I am skilled and able to tailor the therapy to you and your specific needs. Keep reading for more information.
HYPNOTHERAPY
Did you know that hypnosis is a natural and safe state that we all go in to every day?!
You know that feeling when you’re so focused on a boxset or a great book that you don't even question if it's fantasy or reality - and yet you're still able to gently hear other things going on around you?
That's hypnosis
Or maybe you'll know that 'flow-state' feeling when you're engrossed in your favourite sport/hobby/activity?
That's hypnosis
Or when you drive somewhere on autopilot and don't remember how you got there?
That's .... ok you get the idea.
In hypnotherapy we use this natural state of hypnosis to help you focus inwards - in order to make the positive changes that you wish to achieve.
It is during these altered states of awareness that we can work with your subconscious mind. This can allow you to address beliefs, habits, poast experiences, rules you’ve set yourself, fears, phobias, and much more.
Hypnotherapy is a chance to CHANGE what you’re paying attention to and during sessions you will be guided by my voice and my expertise. But you are ALWAYS in control.
HYPNO-PSYCHOTHERAPY
How does this differ from just hypnotherapy you may be asking?

The term 'psychotherapy' refers to a collection of talking therapy approaches. At Bromley Therapy Clinic we are trained in many psychotherapeutic approaches that compliment hypnotherapy brilliantly.
Some of the approaches we may naturally weave into your sessions:
Humanistic – looking at you as a whole human being and how you can reach your own potential

Psychodynamic – helping you understand how past experiences can shape how you are feeling and acting in the present. This can be useful for identifying patterns of behaviour. We look at getting to the root of the problem and work through your unconscious processes
Behavioural – looking at ways we can change your patterns of thoughts and behaviours and learning how they are related
Solution-Focused - identifying the goals you'd like to achieve and focusing on solutions

Eye Movement Reconsolidation - using bi-lateral stimulation and specific eye movements we can help you to reprocess difficult and traumatic memories and focus on feeling safe in the present moment

Somatic/body approaches - working with tapping and breathing techniques we can work without words to help support parts of your brain that have become heightened and anxious

Combining hypnotherapy and psychotherapy allows you, the client, to explore as deeply as you need to whilst also creating sustainable change on a subconscious level.

MINDFULNESS
Contrary to common misconception, mindfulness isn’t about clearing your mind of all thoughts. Mindfulness is actually about paying attention and being aware in the moment. Jon Kabat-Zinn refers to mindfulness as inhabiting the present moment and as “the awareness that arises by paying attention on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally.” (Full Catastrophe Living)
Mindfulness is a mental state but it’s about paying attention rather than thinking. We can pay attention to what is arising within us in a given moment. We can notice how our body feels but instead of being drawn into deep thoughts or judgements about bodily sensations, mindfulness allows us to observe without judgement. It is also possible in mindfulness to be aware of our thoughts as they arise, but rather than engaging with them mindfulness gives us the opportunity to observe and then come back to the present moment.
SPECIALISMS
Here are some of the areas I have a special interest in as well as advanced training
TRAUMA FROM DOMESTIC ABUSE
I specialise in working with women who have lived through an abusive relationship and are ready to process and heal the trauma.
I have lived experience of domestic abuse and understand that even many years later, the experiences can live on in the body and the mind, leading to anxiety, depression, low self-worth, relationship issues and various physical ailments.
I understand that this can leave you feeling hopeless, but I am here to tell you there IS hope. I work with many trauma-informed approaches to help you:
-
Process difficult past events (We can do this without you even having to talk about them if you do not wish to)
-
Move the memories from feeling ‘present’ to the past
-
Move your nervous system from fight, flight, freeze, fawn to rest and digest (feeling safe and calm)
-
Build your self-worth and confidence
-
Trust yourself again
-
Set and achieve new goals for the present and future
Please note I am not a crisis service and if you are in crisis / trying to leave a DV situation, or very recently out of a DV situation you may wish to contact an organisation like Women's Aid

BIRTH TRAUMA & BIRTH PHOBIA
One of the areas I am extremely passionate about working in is birth phobia (also known as Tokophobia) and birth trauma and I have undertaken additional, specialist training in this area. Both are very real issues that require a special level of understanding and sensitivity.

Perhaps you find yourself here because you are preventing yourself from starting a family because the fear of pregnancy or birth is too much?

Or maybe you’ve experience baby loss and you’re frightened to try again.

Or it might be that a previous birth left you feeling traumatised and you need some help moving forward before you can think about having another baby?
Hypno-psychotherapy can really help.
COMMON ISSUES IN THE THERAPY ROOM
Integrative therapy helps you to understand the role of anxiety & reframe what you're experiencing. Hypnotherapy provides a framework to experience a calmer self
If you're feeling depressed or experiencing low mood it's often about identifying thought patterns that lead to low mood. Through therapy you can learn new approaches to thinking, alongside mindfulness skills & feeling lighter and happier in hypnosis
In a society where stress is often glorified is it any wonder so many of us feel stressed & burnt out? In therapy we learn to practice alternative, calmer states of thinking and being
Phobias often develop in childhood, due to an incident where you felt unsafe or unsure. Working with your rational brain we reframe your phobia and through hypnosis you experience a life completely free of the phobia. This imagined experience becomes your new reality
As adults we often feel 'less than' or 'not good enough' - faulty core beliefs we created in our younger years before our brains were fully developed. Whatever your issue leftover from childhood we can bring it into the present and work to reframe it
Traumatic experiences whether prolonged or single events, get stored incorrectly in the brain leaving you feeling as if the trauma is still happening. Through a variety of approaches including eye movement reconsolidation, we work to help you feel safe again, lessen the emotional charge of those memories and help you move forward
Can't break the cycle of restricting food / binge eating? Find yourself eating when you're sad or stressed? Therapy helps you to understand this cycle & response and teaches you new coping mechanisms to deal with life & difficult times
Relationships are at the core of the human experience. Whether you're struggling with family dynamics, romantic relationships or friendships - in therapy we can learn about our attachment styles and patterns in relationships and work towards healthy changes
We are not born with a fixed level of confidence or self esteem. It develops and changes over time. Therapy can help you work out your sense of self and identify areas you want to grow and develop
*These are some of the issues I work with most frequently but this is by no means an exhaustive list. Please get in touch with any issue you're experiencing
